Does White Ice granite really have blue in it?
The sources do not agree. MSI describes pale steel gray and bright white flecked with black, imported from Brazil, and lists a primary color of white-warm with cream and sky accents. Great Lakes Granite repeats the same pale steel gray, white and black description and mentions no blue.
The honest reading is that the cast depends on the lot. Cool, steel-gray slabs read icy under daylight; warmer lots read creamy. Ask for photos of the exact slab beside your wall color.

Where did the name come from, and what else is it called?
Great Lakes lists Aspen White as an alternate name. White Ice is a trade label, and as Wikipedia notes the granite label itself is loose in the construction industry. Compare stone by slab ID rather than by name, and keep the supplier's slab photos with your order.
Which finish suits White Ice in a bathroom: polished, honed or leathered?
Great Lakes offers White Ice honed, leathered or polished, in 3 cm slabs only, and recommends it for kitchen and bathroom countertops and even outdoor use. MSI lists polished only.
| Finish | Look | Best bathroom use |
|---|---|---|
| Polished | Brightest, shows the quartz sparkle most | Vanity top |
| Honed | Softer, matte, a little warmer | Floors, shower walls |
| Leathered | Textured, slightly darker | Floors, vanity tops that should hide marks |
Finishes offered per Great Lakes Granite; descriptions of each look are general, not specific to this stone.
How porous is White Ice granite?
More than dark granites. Marbleseven names White Ice among light, large-crystal granites that are more porous and typically need sealing annually or more often. Its bathroom guideline is every 12–24 months for countertops. The test is the same for all of them: leave water for 10–15 minutes and see if the stone darkens.
What does White Ice cost, and where does it work in a bathroom?
Great Lakes lists granite countertops from $38 per square foot, read November 2026; that is a starting price, not the White Ice total. MSI lists it for countertops, bathroom vanity walls, shower walls and flooring. Shower and floor structure belong with a licensed installer and local code.
How does White Ice compare with Alaska White and Colonial White?
| Stone | Ground | Marks | Origin as listed (MSI) |
|---|---|---|---|
| White Ice | Bright white, pale steel gray | Black flecks, quartz sparkle | Brazil |
| Alaska White | Frosty pale silver and white | Cream and taupe accents | Brazil |
| Colonial White | Cottony pale gray | Black speckle, burgundy and taupe | India |
Descriptions from MSI and Great Lakes Granite pages, read November 2026.
Of the three, White Ice is the one with sparkling quartz that Great Lakes says adds shine, especially when polished. It has no burgundy accent in either seller's description.
What should you look for on the slab?
- Cast: steel gray or cream. This is the main difference between lots, and the reason the blue question is hard to answer.
- Quartz sparkle: it shows most on a polished face and mutes on honed or leathered.
- Black flecks: how many and how large, particularly in the area that becomes the splash behind the faucet.
Great Lakes rates variation as medium and sells only 3 cm. If you need a thinner slab for a wall panel, check with your supplier.
Which finish suits a shower wall versus a vanity top?
MSI lists White Ice for bathroom vanity walls, shower walls and countertops, but offers only a polished face. Great Lakes Granite adds honed and leathered options in 3 cm slabs. A vanity top is touched and wiped daily, so polished gives the brightest quartz sparkle and the easiest cleaning.
A shower wall is splashed rather than walked on, so any of the three finishes can work there, and honed or leathered will hide water streaks better than polished. Whichever you pick, seal the stone and the grout, and have a licensed installer confirm backing and waterproofing against local code.
Does Pietra Fonte make pieces in White Ice granite?
We don't currently offer granite. If you want a bright white solid piece, see Carrara marble or our marble, or use the bespoke page to discuss one. Other stones we work in are at /stones.
