Calacatta Gold is the warm-veined end of Calacatta marble: a luminous white ground with layered gray veining and gold or taupe undertones. Standard Calacatta can be starker, with gray and charcoal veins. Both are calcite marble at Mohs 3, so acids etch them. Gold is the more expensive and more variable choice.

What makes Calacatta Gold different from other Calacatta marble?
The difference is color and rarity. Calacatta marble in general has a luminous white background with dramatic veining that MSI describes as ranging from soft gray to rich gold and charcoal. Calacatta Gold narrows that toward warmth: StonePly describes layered gray veining enriched with warm gold and soft taupe undertones.
Wikipedia lists Calacatta Gold among the more expensive, exotic Carrara-area varieties, alongside Calacatta Borghini and Arabescato Cervaiole, while plain Bianco Carrara is the most common. For the general stone, read the Calacatta overview; this page covers what the Gold name adds.

How does Calacatta Gold look, and how much does a slab vary?
MSI describes white, gray and gold veining, available honed or polished, and notes the polished face enhances reflectivity. StonePly describes broad, flowing areas balanced by finer, more intricate lines. Veining density and the whiteness of the ground are the two things that change most between blocks.
Quanzhou APEX sorts slabs into Extra, A grade and Commercial, with Extra being mostly flawless and Commercial more imperfect, and says bold veining on a clean white ground costs more. Grade names are seller conventions, not a standard, so judge the specific slab by photos or video.
How does Calacatta Gold differ from Calacatta, Carrara and Statuario?
| Stone | Typical character | Seller price (retail per sq ft) |
|---|---|---|
| Calacatta Gold (Italian) | White ground, bold gray with gold veins | $65–$180 |
| Calacatta Gold (Brazilian or Greek) | Less rare; veining varies, sometimes softer | $55–$130 |
| Calacatta Lincoln | Similar look, less contrast | $50–$120 |
| Statuario | Bright white, bold veining | $60–$160 |
| Carrara | Softer gray veining | $40–$85 |
Prices and descriptions from Quanzhou APEX, a slab seller, as of November 2025; a single seller's market view, not a survey.
Carrara is the common, softer-veined option; see Carrara. Calacatta Gold sits above both for drama and price. Because the name is a trade description, two slabs sold as Calacatta Gold can look quite different.
How does Calacatta Gold behave in a bathroom?
Marble in this class is calcite and Mohs 3, per Wikipedia's Mohs scale. ASTM C503 allows calcite marble to absorb up to 0.20% of its weight and requires at least 162 lb/ft³, figures that describe a dense, low-porosity stone that still etches in acid. Our weight model uses about 168 lb/ft³ for marble.
Use Natural Stone's shower guidance says marbles with more veins or inclusions are more vulnerable because moisture in veins can cause damage, and that some white marbles contain iron-bearing minerals that rust when wet. Gold veining is a reason to ask for a wet test on an offcut. A honed face hides etching better than a polished one, and polished marble floors are slippery when wet.
How much does Calacatta Gold marble cost?
Quanzhou APEX gave November 2025 US ranges of $65–$180 per sq ft retail and $38–$110 wholesale or direct import, with standard slabs of 110–125 sq ft at $4,800–$16,000 and jumbo slabs above 130 inches at $12,000–$22,000. Its listed stock ran from $4,300 for a select grade slab to $15,800 for premium grade.
The seller cites origin, grade, vein strength, thickness (2 cm or 3 cm), finish and bookmatching as price drivers, and says Italian Carrara-quarried stone commands the most. Treat every figure as one seller's data. The site's marble bathtub cost guide covers published tub prices.
How do you care for Calacatta Gold?
Seal it, blot spills, and clean with a pH-neutral stone product. Use Natural Stone's bathroom advice adds squeegeeing walls after showers and having a professional rehone or repolish every two to five years where water and calcium deposits dull the surface. Vinegar and harsh cleaners are out. See the stone care guide for tub-specific habits.
Where is Calacatta Gold quarried?
MSI places Calacatta and Carrara both in the Carrara region of Italy, and Wikipedia lists Calacatta Gold among varieties quarried throughout the Carrara area. This is general geology of the variety. Quanzhou APEX says slabs sold as Calacatta Gold also come from Brazilian and Greek sources, which is why the name alone does not tell you the origin.
