Is Steel Grey a good dark gray for a bathroom?
Yes, if consistency matters more than drama. MSI describes shades of gray with small flecks of lighter gray and rates variation low. Litos says there are 3 to 4 varieties but that it is a consistent material, and that it has been in the market for around 30 years. The result is a quiet gray that is easy to match from vanity top to floor tile.

Which finish should you pick for Steel Grey granite in a bathroom?
It depends on the surface. Litos says polished is the most popular finish, leather and brushed are produced in big volumes, flamed is done mostly for exterior paving, and lapatura, also called caress, is another option. MSI lists brushed and polished.
| Surface | Suited to | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Polished | Vanity top, shower walls | Slippery on a wet floor |
| Leather / brushed | Bath floor, shower floor | Texture holds soap film |
| Flamed | Exterior steps and paving | Too rough for bare feet |
| Lapatura | Vanity top with a soft feel | Ask for a sample |

Why is Steel Grey so common, and where is it quarried?
The deposits are hillock outcrops at Gurujaypali in Andhra Pradesh, India. Litos counts 20 to 25 quarries working in 2022 and monthly production of 35,000 to 50,000 cubic meters. It is relatively soft for a granite at a hardness of about 6, but plentiful, which is why it is used heavily in projects, especially in China and Taiwan, and popular as tile in Europe. This is general trade information on the variety.
How is Steel Grey different from Black Pearl?
Both come from Andhra Pradesh, and Litos puts the Steel Grey quarries about 10 km from the Black Pearl quarries. On the surface they diverge. Steel Grey is MSI's dark gray with black accent and small lighter-gray flecks. Black Pearl reads black with silver, gold, brown and green speckle. For a quieter bathroom choose Steel Grey; for contrast and sparkle choose the other.
How does Steel Grey behave around water?
Granite resists most household acids, though Wikipedia reminds us that commercial 'granite' is a broad label. SlabWise's chart puts mid-tone granite at low to moderate porosity and about 1–2 years between seals, and does not list Steel Grey itself, so run a water test on your slab. Fabrication dust carries silica warnings on MSI's page, so use a fabricator who cuts wet.
How heavy is a Steel Grey shower wall panel?
Using about 168 lb/ft³, our working figure for granite, a 2 cm slab weighs roughly 11 lb per square foot. A panel 30 × 80 inches is about 16.7 square feet, so roughly 183 lb. Panels that size need two people and proper backing. Have a licensed installer or structural engineer confirm the wall and fixings.
These are our estimates from a standard density. Litos does not publish a density, so the supplier's figure for your lot is the one to use.
Can Steel Grey go outdoors, such as on a patio shower?
MSI lists it for interior and exterior projects, freezing climates included, and recommends it for landscaping, flooring, countertops and walls. Litos says the flamed finish is mostly used for exterior paving. For an outdoor shower floor, flamed or brushed gives grip. Drainage and frost-protection questions are for the installer and local code, not the spec sheet.
