Quick answer
- Look
- White ground, delicate veins, glass-like surface sheen
- Rock type
- Quartzite, sold as a 'super exotic' Brazilian stone
- Quarry region
- Espírito Santo, Brazil (supplier listing)
- Slab thickness
- 2 cm and 3 cm
- Finishes
- Polished, levigated, brushed
- Frost resistant
- No, per the supplier listing
Cristallo is a white Brazilian quartzite whose polished face reflects light like glass, crossed by delicate pale veins. It is listed for interior and exterior use but is not frost resistant. In a bathroom it suits vanity tops and wall panels, and it should still be acid-tested like any slab sold as quartzite.

What is Cristallo quartzite, and why does it look like glass?
Cristallo is a pale, crystalline-looking quartzite from Brazil. A Vitoria Stone listing describes it as white with delicate veins, and says the top layer reflects light so the surface looks like glass. That sheen is the reason for the name, which suggests crystal.
Quartzite is sandstone recrystallized under heat and pressure into an interlocking quartz mass. The result is hard and dense, and in a true quartzite the quartz does not react with household acids.
What are the properties of Cristallo quartzite?

| Origin region | Espírito Santo, Brazil [1] |
| Thickness | 2 cm and 3 cm [1] |
| Finishes | Polished, levigated, brushed [1] |
| Frost resistance | Not frost resistant [1] |

Is Cristallo the same stone as Cristallo Patagonia?
Probably not. A Brazilian exporter describes Cristallo as white with delicate veins, while another supplier's Cristallo Patagonia is grey-white with translucent zones, gold and charcoal. Trade names overlap, so judge by photos of the actual slab.
Because one name can cover blocks from different quarries, ask your seller for a lot number and compare the slab you will receive against the sample you approved.
Can Cristallo be used outdoors or in a cold climate?
The supplier lists it for external and internal use but marks it as not frost resistant. That points to indoor use, or covered and warm-climate exteriors only. For a bathroom this rarely matters, though an unheated cabin or freezing-climate patio shower would.
Inside a heated home the practical limits are the ordinary ones for polished stone: wet polished floors are slippery, and unsealed surfaces can take up oils.
Which finish should a Cristallo vanity top have?
Polished gives the full glass-like shine the stone is known for. Brushed, which the supplier also lists, gives a softer, textured face that hides water spots. Ask to see your finish on a sample from the same lot, since finish changes how white reads.
| Finish | Effect | Bathroom fit |
|---|---|---|
| Polished | Glass-like, light-reflecting | Vanity tops and wall panels |
| Levigated | Smooth, lower gloss (supplier's term) | Vanity tops, low-glare rooms |
| Brushed | Soft texture, hides spots | Vanity tops, any floor use |

How does a white quartzite behave around water and soap?
A true quartzite is hard enough that daily wiping, razors and ceramic dishes will not scratch it, and acids in toothpaste or cleaners should leave it untouched. A white stone does show tinted spills, though, so wipe makeup, hair dye and iron-rich water from the surface rather than letting them dry.
A penetrating sealer reduces staining on any natural stone. Reapply it on the schedule the sealer maker gives.
How do you check a white slab sold as Cristallo is real quartzite?
White 'quartzites' with glassy shine are the group most often mixed with dolomitic marble. A fabrication supplier advises dropping lemon juice or diluted acid on a hidden edge: true quartzite shows nothing, carbonate stone dulls or fizzes. A steel knife blade should not scratch it. Ask the seller for a mineralogy report showing over 90% quartz.
What does 'super exotic' mean on a Cristallo listing?
In the Brazilian trade, 'exotic' is a marketing grade for stones with dramatic color or pattern, not a scientific category. It tells you the stone is decorative and sold in limited quantity, and it says nothing about hardness or acid resistance. Rely on tests of the slab rather than the adjective.
The listing for Cristallo adds that the quarrying group exports from Brazil to about 30 countries, which means slabs reach the US through several importers. Importers may stock different lots, so ask which lot your slabs come from and view them together before the fabricator cuts.
Geologically, Brazilian quartzites come from old metamorphic belts where quartz-rich sandstone was buried and recrystallized. Quarry regions listed for decorative quartzite include Espírito Santo, which is where the cited supplier places Cristallo.
Does Pietra Fonte make pieces in Cristallo quartzite?
We don't currently offer quartzite. To see what we do carve, browse the stone library, or ask about a one-off through bespoke.
